The community of Magdebourg was destroyed during the Black Death.

The city was the seat of an archbishopric and the source of an urban law copied throughout Central Europe, as far as Poland and Silesia; this law of Magdebourg regulated the status of Jews elsewhere, and it did not protect its own.
