The community of Hildesheim was destroyed during the Black Death.

An episcopal seat in Lower Saxony, the city appears in the lists of annihilated communities; its Jewish life was slowly reconstituted in the following century.

The community lived near the cathedral and lent money to canons and merchants alike; its houses were seized by the townspeople, and its cemetery taken from the survivors.
