The community of Bingen, at the confluence of the Nahe and the Rhine, was destroyed during the Black Death.

The lists of martyrs in the Memorbuch of Nuremberg preserve the names of the Rhenish communities annihilated that year, and Bingen is among them; it is through this register, read each year in the synagogue, that their memory has been transmitted.
