The community of Greifswald was destroyed during the Black Death.
The Hanseatic city of Pomerania lived by the trade of herring and grain; its Jewish moneylenders disappeared with the wave, and Judaism did not reappear there until after the Middle Ages.
Greifswald belonged to the group of Pomeranian cities that lived by maritime trade, whose accounts bear the names of a few Jewish moneylenders; the wave of thirteen hundred and forty-nine caused them to disappear from these registers, and nothing resumed there before the end of the modern era.
