the destroyed community

The community of Gotha was destroyed during the Black Death.

It appears in the lists of Thuringian communities annihilated, between Eisenach and Erfurt, whose destruction was the greatest in the region.

The community lent to merchants on the trade route that crossed Thuringia from west to east. Its houses were taken over by the townspeople, and the cemetery abandoned; only the toponymy of the old city retains any trace of it.
