the call attacked
The call of Vilafranca del Penedès, in Catalonia, was attacked in the spring, during the first wave of the Black Death in the peninsula.
The Catalan riots of that year preceded those of Germany by a few months and did not have the same immediate cause: the Jews were not accused of having poisoned the wells; there was pillaging amid the disorder of a decimated city. Pierre le Cérémonieux ordered inquiries to be opened and condemned rioters, without the communities recovering their former state.
