the community destroyed

Ochsenfurt, on the Main downstream from Würzburg, saw its community destroyed during the Rintfleisch summer, and then again during the Armleder massacres. Both waves followed the same valley and struck the same towns.

It is this geography that explains the extent of the disaster: Franconia was crisscrossed by small towns close enough to one another for a band on foot to pass from one to the next in a single day, and similar enough that the same accusation would take hold everywhere.
