A spa town in Lower Austria near Vienna, Baden bei Wien was home to a medieval Jewish community (documented from the 12th century onward) and a flourishing modern community during the imperial era of the 19th and 20th centuries. The modern community counted many families from the Viennese bourgeoisie before being annihilated during the Shoah.
