Hungarian merchant and philanthropist, born in Güns (Köszeg) on September 20, 1798, died in Baden, near Vienna, on June 28, 1881. He was the first Jew of Hungary elevated to Austrian nobility: his patent, granted on May 13, 1859 by Francis Joseph I, mentions his services to the imperial dynasty during the 1848-1849 revolution as well as his great charity toward all suffering humanity, without distinction of creed.

Négociant et philanthrope hongrois ; né à Güns (Köszeg) le 20 septembre 1798 ; mort à Baden, près de Vienne, le 28 juin 1881. Il fut le premier Juif de Hongrie à être anobli autrichien. Dans son brevet de noblesse, accordé le 13 mai 1859 par le roi François-Joseph I., ses services envers la dynastie impériale pendant la révolution de 1848 et 1849 sont spécialement mentionnés. Il y est fait référence aussi à la grande bienveillance exercée par lui « envers l'humanité souffrante, sans distinction de croyance ».
