Weiller, Pauline

American pianist born in Stuttgart on 22 April 1839, died in Baltimore on 28 December 1874, eldest daughter of the hazzan Moritz Eichberg. Trained by Mathilde Ries then, on the initiative of Rubinstein who made her known to Meyerbeer, at the Conservatory of Leipzig under the direction of Moscheles, she subsequently performed with Rubinstein in Baden and distinguished herself especially as an interpreter of Chopin. In 1859, she left to teach music in New York, then married Alexander Weiller, of Baltimore.

Pianiste américaine ; née à Stuttgart le 22 avril 1839 ; décédée à Baltimore, Md., le 28 décembre 1874 ; fille aînée de Moritz Eichberg, chantre à Stuttgart. Les filles Eichberg, au nombre de cinq, avaient hérité du talent musical de leurs deux parents. Sous la direction de Mathilde Ries, le don musical de Pauline se développa si rapidement qu'elle se produisit en public avant l'âge de dix ans. À treize ans, Rubinstein l'entendit jouer et la présenta à Meyerbeer, grâce à l'influence duquel elle compléta son éducation musicale au Conservatoire de Leipsic, alors dirigé par Moscheles. Plus tard, elle joua pendant une saison avec Rubinstein à Baden. Ses plus grands triomphes furent remportés comme interprète de Chopin. Sa technique était irréprochable et élégante, et sa mémoire musicale suscita l'étonnement des critiques. En 1859, elle se rendit à New York comme professeure de musique, et deux ans plus tard, elle épousa Alexander Weiller de Baltimore.
