Repousse Silver Circumcision Plate from the Ottoman Empire

Circular silver plate intended to receive the newborn or the instruments during the brit milah. The center is adorned with a repousse floral motif and a Hebrew inscription drawn from the covenant, the undulating edge bearing rinceaux and fleurons in the Ottoman manner. These plates, commissioned by wealthy families of the great Sephardic communities of the Empire, also served as a gift to the mohel.
