Double-edged blade mounted on a precious handle of agate or hard stone ringed with silver, whose hard material was considered a favorable omen. Distinct from models with mother-of-pearl or bone handles, this Oriental type was kept in the mohel's kit. The decoration of the handle demonstrated the importance attached to the child's entry into the covenant.
