Marchand d'antiquités issu d'une famille juive de Hamadan ; fils du Dr Benjamin Abolghassem Mahboubian (né à Hamadan en 1868, médecin et archéologue). Il fonde en 1961 la Mahboubian Gallery à New York, puis en 1970 à Londres, réunissant les collections familiales d'art iranien pré- et post-islamique. Il a publié un ouvrage de référence sur le sujet.
