Issu d'une famille rabbinique alsacienne (petit-fils du rabbin Marx Kahn de Westhoffen ; gendre du grand rabbin de Paris Isaac Trenel). Rabbin de Sedan (1880-1888) puis de Neuilly-sur-Seine, grand rabbin et professeur de Talmud au séminaire israélite de Paris. Auteur de plusieurs ouvrages, dont L'humour judéo-alsacien (1933) et un Catéchisme à l'usage de la jeunesse israélite (1910). Père du pédiatre Robert Debré.
