Né à Presbourg en 1769, graveur puis joaillier (il grave le sceau impérial en 1798, devient joaillier de la cour en 1830), il fonde l'une des premières banques d'Autriche. Figure de proue de la naissance de la communauté juive organisée de Vienne : il contribue à la fondation d'une école juive (1812) et de la première synagogue de Vienne, le Stadttempel de la Seitenstettengasse (1826). Mort à Vienne en 1843.
