געגנט: Le Caire (Égypte)
Issu d'une famille juive du Caire, il commença comme employé de banque et devint caissier en chef du Crédit Foncier d'Égypte, tout en tenant à partir de 1890 l'une des plus importantes galeries d'antiquités égyptiennes de son temps, dans sa maison du centre du Caire. Fournisseur des plus grands collectionneurs et musées ; sa collection fut dispersée en ventes posthumes (1953).
