L'un des pères fondateurs de la photographie documentaire moderne en Israël. Il a légué sa collection au Musée d'Israël à Jérusalem ; les archives « Israel Zafrir Photographer » réunissent environ 20 000 négatifs, positifs et diapositives documentant de nombreux artistes israéliens des milieux et fins du XXᵉ siècle.
