געגנט: Mulhouse (Alsace), Paris, Île du Diable
Né à Mulhouse le 9 octobre 1859 dans une famille juive alsacienne. Capitaine accusé à tort de haute trahison (1894), déporté au bagne de l'île du Diable, au cœur de l'Affaire qui divisa la France ; gracié en 1899, réhabilité en 1906. Il tint un journal au bagne dont il tira ses mémoires.
