געגנט: Istanbul, puis Paris
Né à Istanbul, il hérita en 1832 de la banque familiale et la développa considérablement, devenant le banquier du gouvernement ottoman avant la création de la Banque ottomane (financement de la guerre de Crimée). Comte, mécène et philanthrope juif majeur, il fit construire les célèbres escaliers Camondo à Galata. Mort à Paris en 1873, il fut inhumé selon ses vœux au cimetière juif de Hasköy à Istanbul.
