Petit-fils aîné de Rabbi Israël Friedman de Ruzhin, il établit à Buhuşi (Bohush) une cour hassidique de style ruzhinien qu'il dirigea jusqu'à sa mort en 1896. Sa dynastie, restée en Roumanie jusqu'en 1951, fut ensuite transférée en Israël (Tel-Aviv, puis Bnei Brak).
