Historienne américaine, deux fois lauréate du prix Pulitzer (The Guns of August, 1963 ; Stilwell and the American Experience in China, 1972). Née Wertheim dans une famille juive new-yorkaise (petite-fille du diplomate Henry Morgenthau Sr.), elle porte le nom de son mari, le Dr Lester R. Tuchman, sous lequel elle a publié toute son œuvre.
