The Capital Jewish Museum, near Judiciary Square in Washington, traces the history of the Jewish community of the federal capital. On the evening of May 21, 2025, a reception for young diplomats organized by the American Jewish Committee was drawing to a close there when a man opened fire outside the entrance on a couple who were leaving: Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, both employees of the Israeli embassy, who were about to become engaged. The attacker, who had come from Chicago, was arrested on the spot; he was shouting slogans about Gaza. The attack, carried out against diplomats at a Jewish cultural institution, led the United States to strengthen the protection of Israeli representations and community spaces.
