Molotov cocktails thrown at the synagogue during a Jewish youth celebration, three men convicted

Molotov cocktails are thrown at the synagogue in Göteborg while a Jewish youth celebration is taking place inside: teenagers are gathered within, in the adjoining community rooms. The projectiles land on cars and in the courtyard, without reaching the building.
The attack comes in the wake of demonstrations during which slogans calling for the killing of Jews had been chanted in the city. Three men are convicted following the trial, whose significance extends beyond Sweden: the court rejects the argument that hostility toward Israel would justify an attack on a place of worship, and the community of Göteborg, one of the oldest in the country, obtains permanent protection for its premises.
