Shooting at the El Al counter on the American national holiday
4 juill. 2002·Los Angeles, aéroport
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
On the day of the American national holiday, a man approaches the El Al airline counter in the international terminal of Los Angeles airport and opens fire on travelers waiting in line.
Two people are killed and several wounded before a security agent of the airline shoots the attacker dead. The victims were passengers departing for Israel.
Federal authorities initially ruled out the terrorism designation before adopting it, at the conclusion of the investigation, as an antisemitic act committed by a lone individual. The attack leads to a reassessment of the protection of check-in counters in American airports.
