the Krystalgade synagogue and the office of an American airline company

In July 1985, two bombs exploded within minutes of each other in Copenhagen: one against the synagogue on Krystalgade, in the city center, the other outside the office of an American airline. The attack killed one person and injured many others, and caused significant damage to the synagogue building.

Denmark was the country that had saved its Jewish community during the occupation; the attack was felt there as an assault on what bound the country to its Jews. It led, there too, to the installation of permanent protection around a synagogue that had until then opened directly onto the street.
