The ghetto, where Jews from the entire region had been crammed, is liquidated by successive shootings in a nearby wood; a few families survive hidden in farms and in the hills until the arrival of the Red Army.
In Sambir, the Jewish population had been confined to an overcrowded enclosed district where hunger and epidemics had already claimed many victims. The liquidation took place in stages throughout the year, through executions in a nearby forest and through convoys. The last workers from a neighboring labor camp were shot in the spring; the city, which had been home to one of the largest communities in the province, was then declared empty.
