The Shoah (1939–1945)
Shooting at the "Erntefest" in Poniatowa
4 nov. 1943·Poniatowa
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The inmates of the labor camp, mostly from the Warsaw ghetto, are shot in a single day.
The Poniatowa labor camp, in the Lublin region, had been populated largely by survivors of the Warsaw closed quarter, transferred after the spring uprising along with the workshops that employed them.
As part of Operation "Erntefest," the detainees were assembled in early November and led to pits dug nearby. The execution took a full day. A workshop that refused to come out was set on fire with those who had barricaded themselves inside.
