German police arrest the rabbi of Genoa in his synagogue and use the community registers to seize families; those arrested are sent to the transit camp of Modena and then eastward.
The Jews of Genoa are hunted down from autumn onwards, following the German occupation of the northern part of the peninsula. The city's chief rabbi is arrested in his synagogue on rue Bertora, where he had been lured. Arrests continue in hospitals and nursing homes, aided by paid informers. The convoys depart from Genoa's train station toward the Fossoli transit camp.
