Two actions empty the ghetto towards Bełżec; the region is then emptied of its population for German colonization.
Zamość, a Renaissance city built in a single campaign in the 16th century, had welcomed from its founding a Sephardic community that had come from Italy and the Low Countries. Its enclosed quarter was emptied toward Bełżec by two actions, one in spring, the other in autumn.
The region of Zamość was then chosen for a German colonization experiment: the Polish villages were in turn emptied of their inhabitants, displaced or sent to forced labor, to make room for settlers from the East.
