The ghetto of the town on the Bug, a few leagues from a death center, is emptied in several roundups; its great brick synagogue, built in the previous century, remains standing alone in the middle of the emptied quarter.
Wlodawa, on the Bug River, lies a short distance from an extermination center, which makes its enclosed quarter a place of constant transit. Roundups follow one after another throughout the year, punctuated by executions at the cemetery. Its great Baroque synagogue, emptied of its worshippers, has survived and today houses a museum; the community that built it, however, has vanished entirely.
