City near the Galician border whose Jews are led in autumn to the death camp of Bełżec, nearby.

Tomaszów Lubelski, close to the Galician border, had seen its community flee and then return during the first weeks of the war, as the city changed hands between the German and Soviet armies. Under German occupation, an enclosed quarter was established there, fed by the surrounding villages of the district. The proximity of the Bełżec death camp, just a few leagues away, sealed the fate of the city: in spring and autumn, its inhabitants were taken there in several convoys, the journey lasting only a few hours. Those who hid in cellars and attics were hunted down house by house.
