Town in eastern Podolia that became a place of crowding for deportees from Bukovina and Bessarabia, Tomachpil sees a population accumulate in a few streets decimated by disease and cold.

Tomachpil, a town in southern Podolia, receives within its enclosed quarter the deportees from Bessarabia and Bukovina who join the local community. Typhus and hunger wreak havoc there during the winter, and groups deemed unfit for work are led outside the town and shot.
