Liquidation of the ghetto of Radzyń Podlaski

Radzyń Podlaski, between Lublin and Brest, was home to a significant Hassidic community, deeply attached to its local dynasty. The occupation established a closed quarter into which Jews from neighboring hamlets were driven, along with deportees from Slovakia. Forced labor on roads and drainage works claimed the able-bodied men. In the spring and then in the autumn, the inhabitants were led to the transit camp at Międzyrzec Podlaski, from which convoys departed for Treblinka. Those who attempted to hide on nearby farms were either turned in or shot. The Hassidic court of Radzyń Podlaski, which had radiated its influence across the entire region, ceased to exist.
