Town in northern Mazovia whose ghetto, one of the last in the region, was emptied in autumn towards Auschwitz.
Płońsk, northwest of Varsovie, had a majority community in the city, marked by an active Zionist movement from which emerged the future first head of government of Israël. As the territory was annexed to the Reich, the enclosed district of Płońsk became one of the region's assembly points, receiving Jews from the surrounding towns. In the autumn and winter, its inhabitants were transported in convoys to Auschwitz. The district was liquidated within a matter of weeks, and the city, which had sustained one of the most intense communal lives in Mazovie, was emptied.
