Piaski, east of Lublin on the road to Chełm, was an almost entirely Jewish small town. The occupier made it one of the transit points of the district: the enclosed quarter received thousands of Jews deported from Germany, Austria, Bohemia, and Slovakia, who stayed only a few days before being sent on to the extermination camps. The inhabitants of Piaski shared the fate of these convoys when their turn came, in the spring: they were directed to Bełżec, then to Sobibór for the last ones. The town was subsequently declared free of Jews and its houses distributed.
