Mizotch is a small town in Volhynia whose enclosed quarter gathered the Jews of the locality and the surrounding hamlets. Upon learning of its impending liquidation in mid-October, some inhabitants mounted armed resistance and set fire to the houses.
The action was carried out nonetheless and the inhabitants were led to a nearby ravine, where they were shot. A German gendarme present photographed the scene: the photographs of Mizotch are among the rare images of an Eastern shooting taken at the very moment it was taking place.
