Liquidation of the Łosice ghetto

Łosice, a small town in Podlachia near the Bug River, was home to a Jewish community attested since the sixteenth century, which made up the great majority of its inhabitants. Artisans and small traders lived by the weekly market. After the Germans arrived, the population was confined to an enclosed quarter, where families driven out of neighboring localities continued to pour in. In the summer, the occupier emptied this quarter: the inhabitants were gathered together, led to the Siedlce train station, and transported to the Treblinka death camp. The elderly and children too weak to walk were shot along the way.
