Town in the Dniestr valley, Bursztyn sees its Jewish families driven from their homes and regrouped before being taken to the neighboring city, from which convoys depart.
Bursztyn, a borough in the Dniestr valley known for its mills and its fairs, was home to a community rooted there for centuries, gathered around its wooden synagogue. Under the occupation, Jewish families were driven from their homes, stripped of their belongings, and herded into an enclosure of a few streets, where hunger set in. Able-bodied men were sent to work on roads and railways; the others, following several roundups, were marched on foot and then loaded into wagons bound for the nearest town, from which the convoys to the death camp departed.
