The "Bloody Sunday" of Stanisławów, in eastern Galicia, took place at the city's Jewish cemetery, where the population was led district by district after having been assembled in the square. The pits had been dug the day before; the shootings lasted throughout the day and ceased at nightfall, the survivors still within the enclosure being sent home — a detail reported by several witnesses and which has marked the Memory of the city.
The operation, conducted by the district security police and its auxiliary police, preceded by several months the opening of the killing centres of Operation Reinhard: it belongs to the phase during which Galicia was still being killed in place. The survivors were confined in a ghetto, subsequently deported to Bełżec.
