Brailiv, bourg de Podolie, comptait une communauté juive lorsque la province fut parcourue par les insurgés. Elle fut détruite avec celles des localités voisines. Ce sont ces bourgades de quelques centaines d'âmes, disséminées dans les domaines seigneuriaux, qui formèrent l'essentiel des pertes : leur nombre importe autant que leur taille, et c'est pourquoi les chroniqueurs contemporains prirent le parti de les énumérer une à une plutôt que d'en compter les morts.
