Nadvirna, at the foot of the Carpathians, was home to an ancient community in a region of eastern Galicia where Jews were numerous. In October, its Jewish inhabitants were gathered together, led to the Bukovynka forest and shot at the edge of pits dug in advance by a police detachment supported by auxiliaries. Those who survived that day were confined in a ghetto, then deported to the Bełżec extermination center.
