Liquidation of the Koło ghetto

Koło, a town in Greater Poland on the Warta, annexed to the Reich, had an ancient Jewish community that lived by river trade and craftsmanship. Its railway station served as a transit point toward the Chełmno nad Nerem extermination center, established a few miles away: convoys from across the region were unloaded there before being transported by truck. The town's Jewish inhabitants were themselves gathered in the winter, held for several days in the synagogue converted into a place of detention, then led to that center. The town was declared free of Jews.
