Grójec, a small orchard town south of Varsovie, was home to an ancient and numerous community, nearly half the population. Under the occupation, an enclosed quarter gathered its inhabitants and the Jews from surrounding villages, in conditions where hunger came before all else. Early in the year, the town was emptied and its population transferred to the enclosed quarter of Varsovie, where it merged into the mass of refugees. Those who survived the winter were caught up in the following summer's convoys to Treblinka. Grójec never regained Jewish life.
