First deportation of German Jews to the Lublin district: families are rounded up at night and sent by train eastward.

In the night of the twelfth to the thirteenth of February, Jewish families from Stettin are rounded up and sent by train to the Lublin district. It is the first deportation of Jews from Germany to the east.

The operation is carried out as a trial run, without any general directive, by regional authorities who want to make their province "free of Jews." The deportees are abandoned in Polish towns with no shelter or resources, in the middle of winter. The foreign protests it provokes will lead to a temporary suspension of these transports — not to their abandonment.
