The occupier forces Jews of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to leave the country for France and Portugal.
In the aftermath of the invasion, the German administration installed in Luxembourg orders the Jews of the grand duchy to leave the territory. The great majority of the community takes the road to France, Belgium, and Portugal; many will later be overtaken by the occupation in their countries of refuge. Those who remain, often the oldest and the most destitute, are grouped into imposed housing. Luxembourg is the first occupied territory in Western Europe where expulsion precedes deportation.
