the Jewish settlement ransacked, several inhabitants killed

Sosnytsia, a small town in Siveria on the Desna, was home to a Jewish community of merchants and craftsmen. It was sacked during the civil war by detachments coming from the surrounding countryside. Several inhabitants were killed, the others stripped of everything they owned. Post-war investigations listed Sosnytsia among the localities in northern Ukraine where the Jewish population had been struck.
