Novomoskovsk, a small town in the Ekaterinoslav governorate, was home to a Jewish community established the previous century. During the civil war, it was ransacked by armed bands; several inhabitants were killed, the others stripped of their possessions. The Ekaterinoslav governorate, where regular armies and peasant detachments clashed, was among the most severely affected regions of the pogrom wave.
