the Jews of the city stripped and struck as troops pass through
Myrhorod, a town in the Poltava governorate, was home to a Jewish community of merchants and craftsmen. As troops competing for control of the region passed through during the civil war, the town's Jews were stripped of their belongings and beaten. Shops were emptied, houses searched under the pretext of looking for weapons or hidden goods. The town, long spared from the fighting, was eventually caught up in it.
