Jewish shops and houses forced open and emptied
Krolevets, a fair town in Severia renowned for its linens, was home to a Jewish community active in trade. During the civil war, its Jewish shops and homes were forced open and emptied by armed bands. The fair, which sustained the town, ceased; Jewish merchants, stripped of their stocks, were unable to revive it. The ruin of commerce followed that of the people.
