the community denounced by Frankists, several Jews tortured and executed
Two years after the disputation of Lwów, in which the followers of Jacob Frank, having converted to Catholicism, had maintained before the ecclesiastical authorities that the Talmud prescribed the use of Christian blood, the accusation was brought against the community of Wojsławice. Jews were arrested, subjected to torture, and put to death by seigneurial justice; others converted to escape the ordeal. The affair belongs to the series of ritual murder trials that multiplied in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during that century, and it presents its most singular feature: the denunciation came from former coreligionists.
